Polypropylene masterbatch does not contain polar groups or can react with the dye molecules of the group, and the high degree of crystallinity polypropylene fibers, compact structure, so the dyeing of polypropylene is very difficult, the color fastness is quite poor.

To solve the color masterbatch is not easy to dye polypropylene, usually the following three methods:
1. The use of copolymerization or graft copolymerization of the introduction of the polymer to accept the dye molecules of polar groups. Commonly used copolymers are acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, vinyl pyridine and so on.

2. Polypropylene with a small amount of dye acceptor blending and extrusion. One approach is the introduction of organometallic compounds Ni or A1, Zn; another approach is mixed with cationic organic nitrides, such as polyvinyl pyridine and pyrrolidone derivatives. Since this method does not change the fiber structure, and does not affect its physical properties, so is a more practical method.

3. The use of spinning before the color is the pigment in the melt spinning before adding to the polymer. The method also includes melt coloring and master coloring.

At present, the most commonly used at home and abroad coloring method of masterbatch or masterbatch coloring. The advantages are:

1. Eliminates the dyeing process, thus avoiding the staining of waste water on the environment.

2. Energy savings (it is reported that per kilogram of polypropylene using mother coloring method can save 2.15 ~ 3.35 kJ).

3. Color uniformity, complete chromatography, bright color and good color fastness.

Polypropylene masterbatch in coloring, masterbatch intrinsic quality is one of the key, so the masterbatch have the following quality requirements:

1. In the polypropylene melt should have good dispersion.
2. Pigment particle size should be small, uniform size to be too large
3. Add masterbatch does not allow the formation of fibers and a series of post-processing process.
4. Pigments in the masterbatch should have good heat resistance, light resistance, high color fastness and bright colors.
5. In the fiber manufacturing process, must have a stable physicochemical properties, do not react with the spinning auxiliaries.
6. Masterbatch intrinsic quality is a combination of the quality of raw materials used, different masterbatch production methods, the specific production environment, production equipment, operating levels, management capabilities, and many other factors.
